Overview
This tour takes us nature sightseeing around rainforest islands inside Lake Gatun.
We visit:
• Chagres River: The first thing we do is drive to the middle of the Panama Canal, to the main source of water for the Lake and lock system of the Canal, the Chagres River. This is where we get on the boat that will take us to the village.
• Wounaan Community: A short boat ride takes us to the village. We will hike through the forest learning about some of the plants they use in traditional medicine and culture. We will walk through the community and sit down to learn more about their origins, history, architecture, arts and crafts, clothing, diet, daily lives; the works.
• Authentic Arts & Crafts: Don’t feel obligated to buy things, the village charges per person for the visit, so our mere presence already represents an income for the community. But the craftmanship level is high, the prices are fair as they don’t have the markup you’ll find in souvenir stores in the city. And you’d be buying things directly from the artisans themselves. If interested, bring cash.
